United States Merchant Marine Academy, also called USMMA or Kings Point, is a public institution founded in 1943. The Academy is located about 20 miles east of New York City in Kings Point, N.Y. Incoming students are known as plebes, and must complete a two-week indoctrination program to prepare them for the Academy lifestyle. The campus covers 82 acres and is home to the American Merchant Marine Museum which features marine art, ship models, and nautical artifacts.
