Discover the Best Online Colleges & Programs

Online colleges offer degree and certificate programs over the Internet, and award you the appropriate credentials once you complete your coursework. Since your classes take place mostly or entirely on your computer, you will not have to fight traffic, pay for parking, or schedule your career and personal life around your classes. Attending college online means education at your convenience!

Online college degrees now enjoy the same credibility as more traditional on-campus degrees. A recent U.S. Department of Education report notes that “instruction conducted wholly online was more effective in improving student achievement than the purely face to face instruction.” Even more importantly, the online colleges and universities listed here at U.S. News University Directory are all accredited by one of the regional U.S. accrediting agencies.

Online Colleges: Experience Life as an Online Student

You’ll probably be surprised at how easily you can integrate online classes into your life. Coursework is typically divided into a series of online lessons, each of which you are given a certain amount of time to complete (one lesson per week is a common format). You might also be assigned additional reading material, and there will of course be tests. But most of this work you can complete at your own pace and on your own schedule. Online colleges and degree programs offer amazing flexibility.

Online education is also highly interactive. You can email questions to your instructor 24/7, and usually expect to receive a reply within 24 hours. You and your classmates will probably take part in live chat room lectures, discuss course material on an Internet forum, and perhaps even work together on a team project or paper. This allows students to share their knowledge and talents, which provides a more enriching educational experience for everyone.
