Medical Billing and Coding Degrees and Certificates, Online or On-Campus
Medical billers and coders keep patient records, code those records for insurance purposes and issue bills to the appropriate parties. This is one of the few medical professions in which contact with patients is limited or nonexistent; medical billers and coders generally work behind the scenes, dealing primarily with insurance professionals and other medical staff.

Online Certificates and Degrees in Medical Billing & Coding
A Medical Billing and Coding Certificate or an Associate of Science (AS) in Medical Billing and Coding are the standard degrees for this field. Most medical employers prefer to hire billing and coding specialists who are Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT). This certification requires that you graduate from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) and pass an exam administered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). You should therefore make sure that any program you attend is CAHIIM–approved.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that medical billing and coding jobs will grow by 18% through 2016, which is a faster than average rate when compared to all other occupations. Having a CAHIIM accredited degree and AHIMA certification greatly improves your chances of finding a choice medical billing and coding job.
