Secure a Homeland Security Degree or Certificate On-Campus or Online

If you want to be on the front lines of homeland security, consider a law enforcement degree. If you want to be prepared to help people when an emergency occurs, a degree in nursing or medicine is something you should think about. And if you feel that your role is to help manage government response to a crisis, an emergency management degree is probably the way to go.

Because there are so many separate disciplines in the field of homeland security, it is not possible to denote a single employment growth rate.  However, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that all of the major divisions will expand through 2016:  law enforcement by about 11%, healthcare by up to 23% and emergency management by up to 12%.  Holding an advanced degree and taking the latest homeland security continuing education courses can help you find better jobs in the field.
