Types of Forensics Degree Programs and Forensics Certificate Programs Online or On-Campus

Earning a forensics certificate or an Associate in Science (AS) in Criminal Justice or Crime Scene Technology can prepare you for some entry-level forensics jobs, but since this is a science field you will eventually need a bachelor's degree or better to advance. A Bachelor of Science (BS) in Criminal Justice – Crime Scene Investigation is the forensics degree generally considered the start of professional forensics practice.

Forensic science is now being used more and more often to solve and prevent crime.  Therefore, employment in the field is expected to grow by more than 21% through 2016 – much faster than the average for all professions. Forensic professionals who have advanced degrees and attend continuing education courses will have the best opportunities for advancement.
