Registered nurses (RNs) are the backbone of nursing practice, filling over 2.5 million healthcare jobs in the U.S. At the start of your nursing career you might have opted for the shorter path to licensure – an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) – only to later discover that the more comprehensive and rigorous Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred by healthcare employers and necessary for advancement.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - Job Outlook
RN to BSN degree programs provide you with the opportunity to earn a BSN by building on your existing nursing education and experience as an RN. This can take considerably less time than a regular BSN, usually one to three years depending on how many credits you are able to transfer and how much time you can devote to your studies.
Job prospects for RNs are excellent; the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that employment in the field will grow by 23% through 2016. RNs who have their BSN degree should have even better opportunities, which is the exact reason for completing an RN to BSN program.
