Universities expand nursing degree options

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), overall employment of nurses is projected to increase by 22% through 2018. Those who are interested in launching a nursing career can enroll in a variety of excellent nursing degree programs.
Schools such as Azusa Pacific University, California State University San Marcos, National University and Southwestern College are expanding their nursing education programs to include palliative care - which is specialized care focused on the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illnesses. San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine recently received a grant from the Hearst Foundation in order to encourage each of these California schools in their their efforts in this field.

Universities expand nursing degree options world-class program educates healthcare professionals in the most advanced treatment and procedures practiced in our specialty," said Charles van Gunten, provost of The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice. "They become advocates for the highest quality palliative care for patients and their families coping with life-limiting illness."
The BLS reports that 581,500 new jobs will be created for nurses over the next eight years. These professionals may find increased career opportunities in specialized fields like palliative care.
