Two California universities will launch a new pharmacy school.
Like most fields in the allied health industry, jobs for pharmacists are expected to grow rapidly. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of positions for these professionals will rise by 17% through 2018.

As most pharmacists are required to hold a doctorate degree, schools around the country are finding new ways to prepare more students to enter the fast-growing field. Recently, the presidents of California's Chapman University and Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) announced that they are planning to create a joint School of BioPharmacy, according to a press release. The new institution, which will initially be located on the KGI campus, will prepare students to land jobs in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

As students earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and work toward becoming licensed pharmacists, they will learn about the new developments in the ever-changing field, including the delivery of biomolecules, alterations in drug creation and the growth of personalized medicine.

The school is expected to open in the fall of 2014, pending national accreditation.
