Students can earn an MPA degree online. With a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree, professionals in many different industries may find new job opportunities. For example, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical and health service managers, top executives and urban or regional planners are typically required to hold a master's degree in a subject like public administration.
While this graduate credential can be helpful when finding a job, many individuals feel like they simply do not have enough time to earn a master's degree, especially if they have children or work full time. For this reason, some schools now offer online MPA programs, which makes earning the credential more convenient for busy adults.
Recently, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill became the latest school to offer this online education option. According to the Charlotte Business Journal, the university's School of Government will begin offering online MPA courses in January 2013.
Officials from the school said the program, which is called MPA@UNC, is geared toward working professionals who wish to advance to leadership positions in the field.
"The MPA program at UNC Chapel Hill attracts applicants with a desire to serve and a potential for leadership," said William Rivenbark, MPA program director for the university. "Graduates of our program attain leadership positions in every level of government and in organizations that support the public interest."
