Individuals who are interested in pursuing careers in law or criminal justice have multiple disciplines from which to choose. For example, those wishing to earn an associate's degree can enroll in a paralegal program, while those with more education may want to consider earning a master of laws (LLM).
In an effort to help more adults gain the education that is necessary to be successful in these fields, many postsecondary institutions are launching flexible programs, such as online and weekend offerings. Seeking a Criminal Justice Degree? Many Schools are Offering Flexible Online and Weekend Programs course of study, which begins August 22, will be offered through The Citadel Graduate College's Evening Undergraduate Studies program. Those who enroll in the degree track can complete the 2 + 2 program, which is the result of a partnership with Trident Technical College. Through this collaborative effort, students can take general education classes at Trident and complete major courses at The Citadel.
"One of the advantages of this program is a greater level of flexibility in scheduling, with courses offered one night per week as well as on weekends and online," said Bob McNamara, associate dean of the Evening Undergraduate Studies program. "An additional advantage is that the general education requirements allow students to take a wide variety of upper-level elective courses in the major. So while the total number of credit hours remains the same, students are able to enroll in more courses related to their major field of study on The Citadel's campus."
While enrolled in the program, students can learn about the causes of crime, the larger social context in which crime occurs, the operation and effectiveness of agencies within the criminal justice system as well as analytical skills to conduct and evaluate related research.
