Scholarships help teachers achieve their education goals.
It is not always easy for working teachers to find the time and money they need to enroll in graduate school and pursue a master’s degree, but two scholarship recipients are showing that it is possible.

In a recent press release, University Alliance, Bisk Education and Dominican University announced that two educators, Wendy Christie and Stephen Zannis, were selected as the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship recipients for the Summer I, 2012 session. As both teachers work toward earning their Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) completely online, the award will cover 33% of their tuition.

Christie, who resides in Alberta, Canada, is enrolled in Dominican’s MAEd Reading program. In her opinion, pursuing more education helps her make a difference in her students’ lives.

Zannis, a Berkeley, California, resident, teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) and is enrolled in the university’s MAEd ESL program. Like Christie, Zannis, who taught English in Thailand, is driven to make a difference in other people’s lives.

"Dominican University is proud to honor such outstanding educators," said Colleen Reardon, the Dominican School of Education’s dean. "We congratulate Ms. Christie and Mr. Zannis on the receipt of this scholarship which supports teachers who seek to make a difference in the lives of their students."
