Scholarship Aims to Assist Healthcare Degree SeekersAccording to The National Center for Education, 66% of all undergraduates received some type of financial aid during the 2007-2008 academic year. The average amount was $9,100 per student.
Degree seekers who wish to launch careers in healthcare fields may have a greater likelihood of qualifying for tuition assistance, as many private organizations are aiming to support the education of workers in this industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 10 of the 20 fastest-growing careers are healthcare related. In addition, the industry is expected to generate 3.2 million new jobs by 2018.
In an effort to help those who wish to become trained in a healthcare field, applications are currently being accepted for Guthrie's 37th Annual Health Professions Scholarships. The Ithaca Journal reports that nine financial aid packages will be awarded to prospective college students who plan to enter an accredited college, university, hospital-based nursing or allied health program.
Scholarship winners will receive $2,600 over four years, or $650 per year.
Sallie Mae - a provider of student loans - reports that more than $168 billion in financial aid was available during the 2008-2009 academic year.
