The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that through 2018, the number of jobs for pharmacists is expected to increase by about 17%, which is faster than average for all occupations. For this reason, schools across the country are working to find creative ways to bolster their Doctor of Pharmacy degree programs.

Recently, the University of Charleston announced that it will open a branch of its pharmacy school at Kentucky's Midway College, The Associated Press (AP) reports. In doing so, students will be able to earn a four-year doctoral degree in pharmacy at Midway College beginning in the January 2013 semester. Currently, the plan is pending approval from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

pharmacy programs are also preparing to educate more students for a growing job market. According to the AP, Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Pharmacy recently announced that it will open a satellite campus at the University of Virginia Medical Center for the fall 2013 semester. The pharmacy school admitted an additional 10 students in the classes of 2010 and 2011, with the intention of sending these degree seekers to the University of Virginia for their third and fourth years.
