This Michigan resident has earned 29 college degrees. In light of the poor economy, many adults are thinking about going back to school and earning either their first or second college degree. A March survey by Bellevue University highlights this fact, showing that about 60% of Americans have given some or a lot of thought to returning to college.
While many of these adults pursue higher education in the hopes of finding a satisfying career, others, like Michigan's Michael Nicholson, go to school for the love of learning. At age 71, Nicholson is currently working on his 30th college degree, ABC News reports.
Reflecting his passion for higher education, Nicholson has one bachelor's degree, two associate's degrees, 22 master's degrees, three specialist degrees and one doctoral degree. Many of his degrees center around education leadership, but Nicholson has studied everything from home economics to law enforcement, ABC states.
Although 29 degrees would be more than enough for most people, Nicholson is currently pursuing a master's degree in criminal justice. Still, he has no plans to stop going to school when he finishes his 30th credential. The Michigan resident said his goal is to earn 33 or 34 degrees.
"It's stimulation to go to the class, look at the material that's required and meet the teacher and students. It makes life interesting for me," Nicholson told ABC. "Otherwise, things would be pretty dull."
