Business school students can focus their studies on a wide range of topics.
When students decide to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA), they may be able to choose a specialization, which allows them to focus their studies on a particular topic. In fact, while interest in general MBA programs is slowly declining, many schools have seen enrollment grow in specialized business programs, The Washington Post reports.

Gerald A. Hanweck, associate dean for graduate programs at George Mason University, told the Post that this is, in part, due to the fact that students are searching for specialized skills they can immediately apply to their jobs.

"What they want is really stuff they can put right into use in their employment," Hanweck said. "From the point of view of the students, they want to be able to apply it right now."

Due to this increased demand for specialized business programs, many institutions are giving their MBAs more options to personalize their education. For example, Massachusetts' Anna Maria College recently announced that it has launched two new online MBA concentrations in health informatics and sport management, according to a press release.

Students who decide to specialize in health informatics will develop the skills they need to manage and secure digital materials for healthcare organizations, while also studying more general business principles. In the sport management program, on the other hand, individuals will learn about all levels of athletics, including human resources management and marketing.

Aside from these two new online specializations, students who pursue an MBA on Anna Maria's campus can also concentrate on subjects such as ethics and leadership, finance, marketing and security management, the school's website states.

Still, this only represents a small sample of the topics students can specialize in at business schools across the nation. At other institutions, MBAs may find they can focus their studies on entrepreneurship, pharmaceutical management, global business, sustainability or operations management.
