Students will soon be able to earn a master's degree in homeland security in Louisiana. Some students who pursue degrees in criminal justice opt to specialize in homeland security. In doing so, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that they are preparing for a wide variety of careers, including immigration officer, U.S. Coast Guard contract specialist, import specialist and detention and deportation officer.
This summer, students in Louisiana will have an opportunity to earn a master's degree in homeland security at Northwestern State University, as the school is preparing to launch the state's first advanced degree program in the subject, the Shreveport Times reports.
During this course of study, students will take classes on subjects such as international terrorism, transnational organized crime, constitutional issues, cyberterrorism and global security.
Officials from the school said the master's degree program is ideal for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field. Additionally, it will help students who have a master's degree in another subject focus their studies on homeland security.
