In some states, when students earn a nursing diploma, associate's degree or bachelor's degree to become a registered nurse (RN), they are required to take continuing education (CE) courses to maintain their licenses. In California, for example, nurses are required by law to complete 30 hours of CE classes every two years, according to the state's Board of Registered Nursing.

Professionals who must earn CE credits now have another option, as Jacksonville University recently announced that nurses can complete a one-credit CE course sponsored by the school on Nurse.com for free. The class, titled Resumes: The Recruiter's Perspective, typically costs $10, but will be offered for free through May 31, 2012, according to a press release.

This CE course will show nurses how to create solid resumes and cover letters in order to advance their job prospects.

"With this new continuing education sponsorship we’re once again helping RNs meet a portion of their state CE requirements and expanding our own mission of encouraging lifelong learning for nurses," said Judith M. Erickson, dean of the university's School of Nursing.

To earn the free CE credits, nurses will read an article and pass a test on Nurse.com. For more information visit JacksonvilleU.com.
