Professionals who are trained in homeland security are required in a variety of organizations, including the Department of Homeland Security, other federal agencies, state and local governments as well as private industry and nonprofits. Due to the growing demand for these individuals, more academic institutions are offering degree programs in this field.

For example, Capella University - an exclusively web-based school - recently announced that it will offer an online Master of Science (MS) degree in Homeland Security. The program was created for individuals who wish to improve their communication, technology and critical analysis skills in order to properly prepare for, prevent and respond to homeland security issues and emergency events, according to a press release.
