Eva Longoria will soon earn a master's degree.
Many professional athletes and Hollywood stars have gone back to school recently, knowing a degree can help them advance their careers, give them something to fall back on when the limelight fades or simply serve as a valuable source of self-enrichment. In February, for example, former supermodel and TV host Tyra Banks graduated from Harvard University's Executive Education Owner/President Manager Program, The Washington Post reports. Then, just last month, basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal earned a doctoral degree from Barry University, according to ABC News.

Now, "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria is working to become the next celebrity to earn a college degree. With the end of her hit TV show, the star is using her free time to complete her graduate thesis, which is part of the master's degree in Chicano and Chicana studies she is pursuing at California State University, Northridge, WTAQ reports.

This degree program involves the study of the Chicano and Latino experience in the U.S., including history, culture, politics, education and language, the university’s website states.

Longoria plans to devote the summer to her studies, and expects to earn her master's degree in December.
