Jane Lynch is battling against student loan debt.Although Jane Lynch seldom acts in students' best interest when playing Sue Sylvester on her smash show "Glee," she recently announced that she is partnering up with the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) to battle rising student loan debt, USA Today reports.
Under its "Don't Major in Debt Campaign," the NYPIRG launched the National College Finance Center Website, which strives to act as a resource for students to discover all the financial aid options available to them before they take out loans.
Lynch was recruited for the project because she has personally seen the impact that taking out the wrong type of loans can have on students' lives.
"I have several people in my own family, graduating nieces and nephews, both in school or just out of school, and they all have a mountain of debt," Lynch said during a news conference. "In fact, one of them is now dealing with the collection calls because they are unable to pay off their student loan. They didn’t read the fine print. I’m doing this because I don’t want other kids to be saddled with that kind of debt."
Lynch told Bloomberg that one of the best ways students can avoid overwhelming debt after graduation is by understanding the terms of their loans, including what their interest rates are and when they must begin paying them back. For this reason, she hopes the National College Finance Center Website will act as a valuable resource.
