Bachelor's degree holder Nathan Adrian could head to the 2012 Olympics.
Throughout Nathan Adrian's extensive swimming career, he has had to juggle a rigorous academic schedule with his desire to become one of the nation's best swimmers, the Kitsap Sun reports. Unlike many professional athletes, Adrian refused to set aside higher education for athletics, despite the challenges that came with juggling both of his goals.

Recently, both Adrian's athletic and academic dedication paid off. The swimming star graduated from the University of California in May with a 3.7 GPA and a bachelor's degree in public health.

"That is very, very nice," Adrian told the Sun. "I was pretty determined to finish it."

Now, with a degree in hand, Adrian will pursue his athletic dreams. Between June 25 and July 2, he will compete in the U.S. swimming trials in Omaha, Nebraska, where a solid performance could land him a spot in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the Daily Californian reports. Currently, Adrian is a national favorite and has been dubbed the number one seed in the 100 free event.

In 2008, Adrian won a gold medal at the Olympics as part of the 400 free relay. The bachelor's degree holder is also a three-time NCAA champion.
