College Certificates Remain Popular in the Current Economy

College certificates provide a fast education.Recently, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that there was no change in the nation’s unemployment rate between May and June. While this is certainly good news for those who expected economic conditions to worsen, zero change does not exactly inspire confidence either.
Poor economic conditions are just one reason why many individuals are returning to school to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree.However, some students believe there is a faster way to earn the credentials they need in order to land a job - certificate programs.
In many cases, certificate programs can provide students with the knowledge and skills they seek in a year or less, the Dayton Daily News reports. This option has become so popular that a recent study from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce found that in 2010, more than 1 million of these credentials were awarded.
"The offerings have increased dramatically with certificates because it's a great way for a student - whether it's a working adult or somebody in transition - to get some real technical development," Sean Creighton, executive director of the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education, told the Daily News.
