In the past, individuals typically took the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT, when applying to business schools. However, in recent years, more master of business administration (MBA) degree programs have started to accept scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
The Educational Testing Service (ETS) website states that Harvard Business School, Columbia University and Stanford University are among the many institutions that now allow MBA degree seekers to submit their GRE scores.
This is just one reason why a record number of prospective graduate students took the GRE in 2011, according to an ETS press release. Last year, the number of individuals taking the GRE reached an all-time high of more than 800,000.
Greater
More students are taking the GRE. interest in the GRE was also due in part to the fact that ETS released its revamped version of the assessment in August. The GRE revised General Test features a test-taker friendly design, as well as the type of content students will encounter in their graduate studies, according to ETS’ website.
"We are excited to see such a sharp rise in interest in the GRE revised General Test because it ultimately leads to more people pursuing higher education," said David Payne, vice president and chief operating officer of ETS’ higher education division.
