In the age of technology, many bachelor's and master's degree seekers have expressed an interest in using electronic learning tools such as digital textbooks. According to a 2011 Kelton Research study cited by Reuters, about 71% of college students said they want to "go digital" by exchanging their print textbooks for mobile or desktop materials they can read on the go.

For this reason, many schools across the country are making the switch from print materials to digital textbooks. Recently, the California State University System announced that it has formed a partnership with Cengage Learning, which will give students discounts on the publisher's e-textbooks, Inside Higher Ed reports. Beginning in the fall 2013 semester, students can expect to save about 60% on the price of e-textbooks compared to how much it would cost to purchase print materials.

This announcement follows the conclusion of California State's pilot program, in which 3,870 students across five campuses were given e-textbooks, with about 17% of these degree seekers sharing their experiences with the technology through a survey at the end of the semester.
