The Class of 2012 has seen higher salaries than previous college graduates. Many high school graduates decide to go to college with the hopes of landing their dream job and earning a large salary. While troubled economic times may have put a damper on their goals for a few years, new data from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) shows that things are looking up for new bachelor's degree holders.
According to the NACE data, the average salary for the Class of 2012 was $44,259, marking a 1.7% increase over the Class of 2011. While this growth was small, the association notes that salary increases were larger among certain majors.
For example, business majors from the Class of 2012 saw average salaries of $51,541, which is a 2.2% increase over last year's class. Communication majors also experienced a 2.2% salary boost in 2012, bringing their average paychecks to $42,286 per year.
The NACE report also shows that many industries are rapidly recruiting new bachelor's degree holders. This year, the educational services industry employed 298,000 graduates while the healthcare and social assistance field welcomed 180,000 degree holders.
