On-Campus and Online Arts & Design Degrees and Certificates

Online art degrees and online design courses are very popular because they offer you the opportunity to change or enhance your career while continuing to work. For example, earning your interior design degree online allows you to work full-time during the day – perhaps in a related job like retail home improvement – and study interior design in the evening. An online arts degree can increase your financial security as well; the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics estimates that professionals with a bachelor’s degree earn over $18,000 more annually when compared to someone with only a high school diploma.

Your campus-based or online degree in art can help you find a lucrative job in a field you enjoy. There are dozens of art and design degrees for you to choose from, but some of the more common ones – and the careers they can lead you to – include:

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Graphic Design – This program generally takes two years of full time study and prepares you for entry-level work in advertising, illustration, page layout or website design.
  • Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) – A degree that usually takes five years to complete, a BArch qualifies you to take the Architect Registration Examination after a period of practical training.
  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing – Most MFAs are terminal degrees, meaning they are the highest degrees possible in their field. An MFA in Creative Writing prepares you for employment as a copywriter, editor or journalist. Because this is an advanced degree it can also help you eventually acquire a high-level position such as creative director.
