MBA – Accounting

MBA – Law Enforcement & Corrections
The Law Enforcement & Corrections MBA is a 36 credit hour program that students can complete in as little as 12 months. The program is designed to help law enforcement and correctional officers budget finances, manage officers, and become strong, well-rounded leaders. Students can earn their degree from anywhere. Classes are 100% online, which provides great flexibility. A business degree is not required to be accepted into our program, and professional and military training could equal credits. MBA - Self-Designed
The self-designed MBA is a 36 credit hour program delivered entirely online. The program is designed to provide students with a customized, versatile specialization that is directly relevant to their existing or intended career path. Students can complete the program in as little as 14 months and have significant control over their area of specialization by tailoring their course preferences to suit their own needs. Students can choose up to twelve credit hours (4 classes) from the emphasis area course list to create a specialization that meets their career objectives.
MBA - Research Track
The Research Track MBA is designed for students with a strong desire to participate in academic research and scholarly writing/publication. As a 36 credit hour (minimum) program delivered entirely online, students engage in a well-rounded, multidisciplinary curriculum which addresses all of the primary content areas. Prior to completion of the program, students will work closely with a core team of subject matter experts to develop a research-based thesis. This committee will guide the student through the design, data collection, and analysis phases of the thesis project, providing a solid foundation for future study. Many Research Track MBA students choose to continue their academic career in a PhD/Doctoral program.
Mental Health Counseling
This program prepares candidates to become counselors as defined by the American Counseling Association (ACA) 1997 definition of professional counseling as, "...the application of mental health, psychological or human development principles, through cognitive, affective, behavioral or systemic interventions, strategies that address wellness, personal growth, or career development, as well as pathology." Intern and Practicum students can work in a variety of mental health settings.
University of the Southwest’s Master of Science in Education, School Counseling is a 42-credit, fully online degree program designed to prepare you for licensure as a school counselor in primary, elementary, middle, and high school settings.
With coursework in counseling theories and techniques; counseling ethics; career development; and group, family and child/adolescent counseling, you will develop the knowledge and skillset to interact with students from varying backgrounds and serve as an advocate for their academic, career and personal success. You will learn how to:
- focus on the relations and interactions between students and their school environment with the expressed purpose of reducing the effect of environmental and institutional barriers that impede student academic success;
- assist students with evaluating and considering future educational and career paths; and
- provide an atmosphere where all students can learn.
Practicums and an internship are required and can be completed in a variety of settings.
The Master of Science in Education
School Counseling is accredited by the New Mexico Public Education Department and prepares students for licensure as a school counselor in state of New Mexico.
Out-of-State-Residents: Please contact your state’s department of education to determine if University of the Southwest’s program meets your state’s licensing and certification regulations.
University of the Southwest also offers a post-master’s licensure program for individuals who already have a master's degree but wish to become a licensed school counselor in New Mexico.
Curriculum and Instruction
Curriculum and Instruction is a degree plan which helps educators learn how to develop strategies for learning. University of the Southwest's Curriculum and Instruction program will guide educators as they learn to integrate teaching strategies with technology. Students may also specialize in bilingual education or teaching English to speakers of other languages.
Curriculum and Instruction – Bilingual
If you can speak Spanish at an 8th-grade level of proficiency or have completed at least 12-credit-hours of Spanish, you can apply for admission to the Curriculum & Instruction: Bilingual Degree program. Proficiency in speaking and writing in Spanish is essential for those who wish to complete this degree, since many of the courses for this degree are facilitated and completed using the Spanish language.

Curriculum and Instruction - TESOL
If you are not bilingual but aspire to work with and to teach English to speakers of other languages, you will want to earn this degree in Curriculum & Instruction: TESOL.
